Biography
Astrid Kruse Jensen is a young Scandinavian artist. She lived, studied, worked
and had numerous exhibitions of her photographs all over Western Europe and
in Russia. Her pictures are represented in public collections of The National
Museum for Photography in Copenhagen, Museet for Fotokunst, Kladefabrik, Denmark
and at The John Kobal Foundation in London.
Exhibition: [Allusions of home]
Allusions of home is a series of portraits of Scandinavian women; young women
who were living abroad temporarily at the time when they were portrayed.
The spaces they lived in are almost empty and with only few belongings which
are there just to create a sense of home. Things which a person brings along
to create that feeling: pictures, CD's, alarm clocks, books and so on.
Issues of alienation and displacement come into light in these pictures. They
have been created to speak about ways of living in a constant flow, travelling.
Their postures are slightly awkward and stiff, which questions 'the feeling
of and experience of home'.
This is an ongoing project the artist started in 1998, when she moved from
Denmark to Amsterdam. In 2000 she moved to Glasgow to work and she continued
making the portraits. Now she is back in Denmark and still feels the importance
of these issues.
